Worlds of Fun's Massive Waterpark Expansion Set to Soak

Friday, May 24th, 2013

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Worlds of Fun celebrates its 40th anniversary by unveiling a completely renovated Oceans of Fun waterpark, marking the completion of the largest waterpark expansion in the park’s history. This extensive project is highlighted by combining both parks into a single admission ticket and the addition of six new slides.

Worlds of Fun offers unbeatable value by combining both Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun to one ticket admission. Now with both parks for the price of one, every guest will have access to 235-acres of rides, slides, shows, and attractions, complete with the massive waterpark expansion.

The six new slides that nearly double the park’s waterslide capacity are housed on a 65-foot-tall complex overlooking Surf City Wave Pool. At the peak stands Predators’ Plunge, where guests climb into one of three Aqua-Launch chambers with a floor that suddenly drops out to a high-speed near-vertical drop and a series of loops and s-curves in a translucent flume. Known as Constrictor, the fourth slide features double tubes spiraling down an enclosed slide with four 360-degree tight turns. Sharks’ Revenge, two other enclosed tube slides, feature high speed drops and banks.

Other new additions at the waterpark include renovated pool areas, new retail locations, and guest amenities such as new cabanas and more lounge chairs. New food offerings are highlighted by the addition of Chickie’s & Pete’s, which has been recognized by ESPN as ‘Best Sports Bar in North America’.

“The 40th anniversary season is our biggest yet with the Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun now all in one park, and all in one admission price," states Frank Wilburn, Vice President and General Manager at Worlds of Fun. “We can’t wait to share our new world-class waterpark and Worlds of Fun with all of our guests."

Worlds of Fun is now open daily, and the waterpark opens on Saturday May 25 with both parks included with any admission ticket. Guests, who want to enjoy all 235-acres of attractions all season long, including Halloween Haunt in the fall, can purchase a Gold Season Pass at worldsoffun.com, at the park during operating hours, or by phone at 816-454-4545.

Worlds of Fun is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FUN.” In addition to Worlds of Fun, Cedar Fair owns and operates ten other amusement parks, six water parks, one indoor water park resort, and five hotels. Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in Gilroy, Calif. under a management contract.
