Grand Carnivale: A Spectacle of Talent Show Guide 2019

This is Rita’s second season at the park and as a Communications Coordinator Intern. She recently graduated from Truman State University earning degrees in Communications and English. Rita enjoys the art of storytelling and tossing the good ol’ fris around.

Entertainment at Grand Carnivale is non-stop! Impressively, each evening at 5 p.m., the Worlds of Fun street transforms into a stage of wonderment over the 100+ characters. The showcasing of China, France, Germany, India, and Italy wouldn’t be complete without authentic entertainment. Here is a glance and guide to our daily spectacle of talent during Grand Carnivale. There’s still plenty of time to check out ALL that Carnivale has to offer, with the festival running until August 4.

China 

Located near Spinning Dragons, four beautiful Chinese Fan Dancers greet guests as they pass by. These talented ladies perform with elegance and grace, wearing traditional kimonos. You can catch their fan dance at varying times every day, beginning at 5 p.m. Another performer is guitarist Chris Stevens, strumming along on the China stage.

France 

Your experience in France may involve dogs, string musicians, but most definitely mimes. The French mime duo is always around, saying so much without uttering a single word. The trio musicians with their cello, violin, and viola brighten the space playing French classics such as the Can-Can. You can interact with mimes and listen to the string musicians. A final act in France is the lovable dog show barking as Grand Carnivale opens in the evening. Revior! (goodbye)

Germany 

Guten tag! You will leave Germany craving schnitzel and the ability to pull off wearing lederhosen. The friendly faces of the polka playing, Alpen Spielers, perform at with their trusty tuba and accordion at varying times during Grand Carnivale. Jane Christisen invites all audiences to dance and sing along to her accordion music as she visits familiar tunes like the chicken dance. Finally, the whole experience is complete with the VEP dancers, a group of young and spry characters dancing along to the rhythms of traditional German music.  

India 

Where Hollywood meets Bollywood, India showcases two talented women all evening long! A belly dancer that is sure to astound guests even invites people on stage to try their hand (or belly) at this traditional dance every evening.

Ariana, the Contortionist, bends in every which way through your India experience. This talented acrobat began her career at the age of 10, where she picked up the skills to join and tour with a youth circus at 13. To witness her mind-bending skills, be sure to stop by India.

Italy 

Topsy Turvy, the "sibling rivalry gone right," includes two competing acrobatic women, coming together to do tricks that might seem impossible to the average person. Equipped with a whip and a floral target, Topsy Tury will make you fall silent from amazement one minute but have you laughing out loud the next.

Who is ready to see a chicken acrobat? Mesner Puppet theatre’s very own Damien Blake presents “The Amazing Chicken Parmesan Acrobat!” Each evening you can watch Blake and his puppet Parmesan showcase tricks of their very own! What will happen to Blake’s poultry pal when he is shot out of a canon? Come to Italy during Grand Carnivale to find out! Mama mia!!

To balance out the antics of other acts, the sweet and soft sounds of Italy play throughout your journey, from our Italian playing instrumentalist.

International Plaza 

The spectacle of talent does not stop in our five countries. The International Plaza has entertainment of its own, for the whole family to enjoy!

The cast of Hot Rhythm Nights moves and grooves twice on weekdays to help everyone warm their dancing feet up before our Spectacle of Color parade to follow at 8:30 p.m. An explosion of color, live music, and dance; HRM is the perfect performance to let loose!

Another energetic show, the Anti-Gravity Cirque takes the stage at the center of the International plaza. Through the use of each other’s full bodies, these five talents create a breathtaking performance of seemingly impossible tricks. You may encounter a stack of people three high, reaching new heights together. You might also see one talent using his arms to propel a Chinese yo-yo twenty-five feet in the air to come plummeting back down to his string. The Anti-Gravity team includes an ariel dancer that keeps audiences captivated throughout her set.

The GRAND experience 

Carnivale offers the sights, sounds, smells and talent of these five countries. Experience China, France, Germany, India and Italy without even leaving Kansas City. For more information on performances be sure to check our website or pick up your Grand Carnivale passport upon entering the park. Times will vary each day. Come one, come all to Grand Carnivale!!
