Worlds of Fun Announces a New Zambezi Zinger – Everyone Goes Nuts
Worlds of Fun unveiled plans for the all-new, re-imagined Zambezi Zinger on August 11, 2022. The modern iteration of this legendary coaster makes its return to the park for its 50th anniversary season. The overwhelming response from fans, guests and citizens of Kansas City got us thinking: What is it about ZZ that resonated so much with our Gen X and Millennial guests?
The power of nostalgia has long been used in marketing and advertising to trigger feelings of better days and carefree summers. Whether that’s a soda going back to an old can design or sports teams donning throwback jerseys for a few games, the urge to hearken back to the past can be an effective strategy.
When discussing capital investments for 2023, Worlds of Fun lobbied Cedar Fair for the return of a beloved roller coaster after hearing pleas from its guests for decades. Zambezi Zinger and Orient Express are two of the most famous coasters in the park’s history. Despite additions like Prowler, Patriot, Boomerang, Mamba and improvements to Timberwolf over the years, fans of the park still yearned for the return of at least one of its legendary former coasters.
Judging by the responses to the announcement by fans and media alike, this new era Zinger will continue to be adored by fans young and old for generations.
Zambezi Zinger is held in very high regard in Kansas City. Despite its modest specs and medium thrill level, the ride uniquely resonated with the citizens of Kansas City from 1973-1997.
The opportunity for families to share something very real and potent yet again is extremely powerful. We cannot wait to share it with our guests.
