Worlds of Fun Food and Beverage Department Takes on Herndon Career Center
On Thursday, January 26th, the Worlds of Fun Food and Beverage team made their way to the Herndon Career Center in Raytown, Missouri to mentor students as they cooked, served, and managed the student-run restaurant, Cinder. This beautifully designed restaurant offers an elegant dining experience paired with a state-of-the-art prep kitchen that provides students with a modern and comprehensive hands-on learning environment.
Seeing the quality of product and service provided by these students was a sight to behold. The attention to detail shown as they prepared and plated Michelin Star-quality food was impressive. Our Executive Chef Wesley Boston spoke highly of the budding talent as he helped throughout the kitchen, not only giving advice and tips, but also taking direction from the capable young chefs around him.
Beyond assisting the students of the culinary arts department, our chefs also had the opportunity to provide and plate signature Worlds of Fun dishes among a seven course VIP dining experience.
The first of these dishes was named “The Norma” after our guest-favorite dining location Norma’s Funnel Cake. This dish appropriately consisted of a Pain Perdu Fitter made from our classic funnel cake batter with veal breakfast sausage, organic maple syrup, vanilla bean habanero Chantilly cream, and topped with powdered sugar.
The next park-inspired dish was named “The Prospector” after our classic Americana location, Prospectors Burritos & Cantina. This dish consisted of Braised Pork Carnitas made from sweet corn tamale cake, our brand-new cactus crema Verde, and topped with cheddar, avocado, and cilantro.
The third and final dish curated by our culinary team was named after our classic Kansas City barbecue restaurant “The Cotton Blossom.” This sweet and savory dish was a Burnt End-Apple Chutney Caviar with fromage à tartiner mornay sauce, horseradish, and basil.
If any of these dishes have your mouth watering, you will be able to taste these same basic ingredients during the 2023 season. The culinary team of Worlds of Fun is stepping up and changing everything you thought you knew about theme park food for the better.
