We’re Coming in Hot with a New Hot Sauce
Worlds of Fun is excited to unveil our brand-new condiment to pair beside our Cotton Blossom BBQ sauce: Worlds’ Best Hot Sauce! Developed by our executive chef Wesley Boston, this exciting addition to our pantry collection is sure to add a little kick to your snacks and a dollop of heat to your meals! Made with Cayenne peppers, this sauce is hot but approachable and made to be palatable to most.
The recipe was a brainchild born out of boredom in at home. “A while back, during the off-season, everyone is in quarantine: Our F&B Director had some peppers, he was talking about aging and hot sauce. I had all kinds of peppers growing in a garden also, so I just started playing around with it. What happens if I age these peppers? What happens if I roast these peppers?” Chef Boston recalled, when asked about how Worlds’ Best was born.
“A small amount of peppers can turn into a tremendous amount of hot sauce!” Boston said. The first test batches of the hot sauce were even made with home-grown peppers.
The sauce and the flavor wasn’t an immediate slam dunk, though. “Hot sauce is an easy thing to make from the standpoint to make in that it’s just patience because you have to age the peppers. Where it becomes difficult is that it takes three weeks minimum to age them, to get to the place where you taste it and (know) if you like it or you don’t. You have to be very deliberate with the process. This one took a couple of tries, since we wanted this one to be called “Original” or the “Mother” that we can build the other stuff off of, so this was the harder one.”
As for the flavor, Worlds’ Best is vinegary and has a lot of vegetables added to it like onion and celery to balance the flavor. As someone who does not describe herself as a heat lover, the sauce has a forward zing and punch right away but fades away to a tingle and leaves relatively quickly from the palate, making it perfect to add any zest to a dish or snack. The taste is hot but almost addictive! I find myself wanting more after every bite.

Worlds’ Best Hot Sauce, says Boston, “is approachable, not blazing hot, and thick enough to adhere without dripping off” whatever is dipped in it. The park makes its own chicharrons, which pair perfectly with a hot sauce to coat it. By also serving wings, Chef Boston plans to use the new condiment to turn into a buffalo sauce by adding butter and a bunch of seasoning to it.
Worlds of Fun plans to release two more recipes in the hot sauce line, a mild green sauce, and a fire hot sauce to complete the triad of our custom hot sauce line. World’s Best will live beside our Cotton Blossom Barbeque and specialty rubs created especially for our restaurant’s recipes and for you to take home to your own pantry.
It will be featured throughout shops and restaurants in the park such as Calypso Café, Cotton Blossom BBQ, Surf’s Up BBQ, G’rilla Grill, and Prospector’s Burritos & Cantina so that guests can get a taste of our recipe before taking the opportunity to buy it. Get yourself ready for its launch!
