Worlds of Fun on Saturday Night Live

On February 28, 2021 – Kansas Citians and amusement park fans alike joined in the same reaction as they realized Worlds of Fun was being featured in a skit on Saturday Night Live.
Here’s how your reaction likely played out…
- “Wait, is that…did they just say…”
- “Is that…is THAT VIKING VOYAGER”
- “WHAT?” *scares pet
- “W-W-Wworlds of Fun! Worlds of Fun!”
- “Look, there’s the logo and park map!”
- “What does that word mean?”
- “Kansas City on the map, whoop!”
- “Wow. Worlds of Fun was just in a skit with a Jonas Brother. Hope that doesn’t go to their head." It totally did by the way…
No. We did not pay to get on SNL. The skit was written by Heidi Gardner - the amazingly talented writer, comedian, actor and Kansas City native. It is a tip-of-the-hat to her hometown, her childhood, and we are truly honored to be included.
On Instagram, Heidi shared a post featuring several shots from behind-the-scenes of the historic Studio 8H. She wrote, “JOE GARDNER // We share a last name and now a sketch. I had so much fun writing about one of my favorite rides @worldsoffun 🌎 Thank you @kylemooney for playing Cuck and being so funny and making us all break in this sketch and so many others. It made the week so much fun. Thank you @nbcsnl prop department for making a 6ft tall Joe Gardner. Thank you sets for making the set of my childhood dreams. That “flume” was beyond! Thank you @bro_ker326 wardrobe dept and @jodimancusohairdesign hair dept for totally “teening” us out. Thank you @nickjonas @eggyboom @punkiejohnson @mikeyfuntime for being perfect in every way. And to @jasminepierce and @streeterseidell for supervising it and making me feel supported every step of the way. And @frangillespie for making it possible for Joe to be at goodnights. 💕💕💕💕 and to @fayedunaway for this pre-cold open flare and 🔥”
Heidi, her fellow SNL castmates, the set designers, wardrobe department – they nailed it, even down to the details of our rider safety information, font and signage. Bravo! The Worlds of Fun skit perfectly encompasses teenage awkwardness, and we’re here for it.
Will we have a giant “Guy from Soul” available to win at the ring toss? Will we crop him into your on-ride photo? Who knows? But one thing’s for sure, you should come ride Viking Voyager and like…demo it…like for height.
Worlds of Fun opens for the 2021 season May 22. Until then, stand tall, Vikings!
